The experience of belonging is about connectedness through community, as well as rootedness in a place, a feeling of ownership in shared outcomes, and a sense of mission with others. It may also have a darker side that creates gaps between inclusion and exclusion, which are so difficult to navigate. Standing People Together’s ‘On Belonging’ is a project in 4 Acts: Act 1 (playwriting competition); Act 2 (play selection, public reading and awards ceremony); Act 3 (public-facing workshops and rehearsals) and Act 4 (final production at the Tusten Theater on Nov. 2nd and 3rd. ‘100 Flares / Lights / Bagpipes’  by Raphaele Shirley & David Watson | The Callicoon Depot
Raphaele Shirley and David Watson illuminate the Callicoon Depot with an immersive installation combining live sound, handheld lights, and white flares. The site transforms into an evolving, ephemeral sculpture, momentarily obscured as the progression of change is marked by Watson’s live musical composition. Created specifically for the Callicoon Art Walk, this work builds on Shirley’s series of ephemeral sculptures, accompanied by live music, developed since 2016 and presented at venues such as the Queens Museum, Flint Public Art Project, and the Kai Art Center. Inspired by 18th-century paintings and ideas of urgency and celebration, Shirley brings fragments of historical imagery to life, momentarily blurring the lines between imagination and reality, past and present.
